ABOUT BLOOD ROSE

blood rose

There’s no wrath like that of a witch scorned.

Avah Taylor has been given a death sentence: as one of the only spirit users in her coven, Avah has been chosen to wield The Power, the ultimate weapon against the immortal vampire species witches have been at war with for centuries. The Power, given by the gods to one witch of each generation, is considered a great honor, but every witch before has died trying to master this all-too-powerful gift, one that the shell of a mortal can’t contain for long.

On the night of her birth rite, Avah’s coven is attacked, and Avah is left for dead. Confronted with a terrible choice, Avah must decide to either die or save herself by becoming like her enemies. Forced to seek refuge among the very beings she has sworn to kill, Avah vows revenge on those who took her former life from her.

As Avah slowly transitions into a life of blood and war and battles her own feelings for a man she is supposed to hate, she realizes everything she’s been told is a lie.

INTERVIEW

What is your book, Blood Rose, about?

Blood Rose is the first book in my new adult paranormal romance and urban fantasy series, Blood Books. The novel is equal parts action and romance and features witches, vampires, forbidden romances, and an ancient war. Here’s the back cover blurb:

Where did you get the inspiration for your characters?

Oddly enough, my characters didn’t inspire Blood Rose. I was first inspired to create the novel by vivid dreams. I dreamt specific scenes and created the series from there. When I need inspiration, I rely heavily on my dreams, but I also look at everyday life. So many interactions I’ve had and people I’ve met have inspired me to create specific characters. Avah and I share similar traits, and my husband shares similar traits with Jasik. The idea of “the perfect family,” a group of individuals who would truly do anything for their loved ones, is what inspired me to create Amicia’s Hunters. These Hunters are a group of beings who are not blood related (except for Jasik & Malik), but their bond is far stronger than the bond Avah shares with her own mother. You’ll learn all about that in Blood Rose!

Have you considered making a street team for your book once it has been released?

Yes! I will definitely have a street team. Once Blood Rose has been released, I’ll be posting more about that and how readers can join my team.

When did you decide to become a writer and how did it happen?

The quick version: I vaguely remember writing stories as a child, but I don’t actually credit my writing’s beginning until 2009. In 2008, I watched a movie that completely changed my life. After seeing this film, I began devouring books, which then led me to begin writing my own. I was still in college during this transition, so I ended up getting my Bachelor of Arts in English and then went on to graduate school to get my Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. And what do they say? The rest is history!

Which writers inspire you?

I’m inspired by so many writers: Richelle Mead, Chloe Neill, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, PC Cast, Kristin Cast, Alyson Noel, Zac Brewer, Stephenie Meyer, J.K. Rowling, and so, so many more.

How does it feel that your book is close to being released?

It’s so exciting! I still can’t believe I’m so close to release day.

What are some of your long and short term goals as a writer?

I’m a total planner, and I LOVE talking about the future and my plans for it. Because of this, I have so, so many goals. My short-term goals include everyday things like trying to write 1,000 words a day or reading more books on the craft of writing. My long-term goals include publishing three to four books every year and attending as many writing conventions that I can.

Do you have a writing routine? If so, what is it?

I do, but my routine varies based on what I’m doing: outlining, writing, personal revising/editing, and professionally editing. It takes about four months to get from step one (outlining) to the final step (a fully edited novel ready for publication).

I first spend about a week outlining my novel. Outlines for me can be as basic as a paragraph or as complex as a storyboard. The type of outline depends on the genre. Novels requiring world building require a complex outline.

Once I’m done outlining, I write the novel in about two months. I aim for at least 1,000 words per day. I usually don’t take any days off unless I’m ahead at the end of the week (if I have 7,000 words by Friday, then I’ll take Saturday off and begin writing again on Sunday).

After I’ve written the novel, I begin revising and editing. I spend one month on this, and once this part is completed, I send my manuscript to my editor. The next month is spent doing two thorough rounds of editing, and after that, my manuscript is off to my formatter, which is the step right before it lands in your hands!

Do you ever get writers block? If so, how do you overcome it?

I rarely face writer’s block, because I outline my novels. Outlining gives me a plan each day. I know exactly what I’ll be working on when I hit the chair. When I do face writer’s block, I usually overcome it by doing one of two things: 1) I research my world some more, or 2) I resort to tossing The Ball. Have you ever seen the television show House, MD? Well, when Dr. House needs to process complicated situations, he tosses a ball against a wall. That’s exactly what I do, and believe me, it works wonders! I just sit in my office, toss and catch the ball, and mentally work through the roadblocks.

How did you come up with the cover’s design?

I had a specific idea in mind for Blood Rose’s cover, but I also worked with a fantastic cover designer, Robin from Wicked by Design, who was able to take my ramblings and transform them into a masterpiece!

Who designed the cover?

Blood Rose’s cover was designed by Robin at Wicked by Design. She does fantastic work!

What do you think about book trailers?

Love them! I will definitely create trailers for my books at some point.

Where can readers find you?

You can find all of my contact information on my website: www.Danielle-Rose.com. I’m very active on social media, too. I have a Facebook profile and page, as well as Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, and Amazon Author accounts. I’m also always reachable via private/direct messages and emails.
